I consulted a young couple, Amandine and Rémi. Amandine was very worried after a positive HPV test. She felt 'dirty', blamed herself, and feared transmitting the virus to her boyfriend. She wanted to know where it came from, how to eliminate it, and when she could resume a normal sex life.I explained to her that the papillomavirus is extremely common, that 90% of sexually active people will be positive at some point, and that most eliminate it naturally. Her colposcopy was normal, but she was still frustrated that there is no treatment. She also regretted not being vaccinated at a younger age, which opened the discussion about the importance of vaccination, now recommended for both girls and boys.I hope I managed to reassure her a bit, to make her understand that she should not be ashamed.
