Tom, 18 years old, comes in for a consultation to renew his Ventolin and treat his acne. The consultation seems innocuous until he hesitates, uncomfortable, and finally reveals what is really troubling him: he had his first time with his girlfriend, but he felt the ejaculation was too quick in his eyes. He feels worthless, ashamed, convinced that he ruined everything, and asks for a medication to prevent it from happening again.I explain to him that what he experienced is normal, that he is judging himself too harshly, and that what matters is communication with his girlfriend. He remains skeptical, so I talk to him about self-confidence, letting go, and... Dumbo's feather. He understands the message, accepts the idea of re-evaluating his relationship with performance, and decides to respond to his girlfriend's messages.As he leaves, he forgets his Ventolin prescription. Proof that, ultimately, he came looking for something else.
