(English) Episode 288-How Heavy Loading Heals Achilles Tendons

Épisode de Health Physio+ par Arthromainpod · 6 octobre 2026 · 22 min

An international expert panel conducted a modified Delphi study to determine which heel raise exercise parameters have the greatest impact on rehabilitation outcomes for midportion and insertional Achilles tendinopathy.

Through a three-round survey process involving seventeen specialists, the study evaluated sixteen variables to establish clear clinical guidelines.

For midportion Achilles tendinopathy, experts reached a consensus that contraction intensity, total time under tension, number of repetitions and sets, and type of contraction significantly influence recovery.

Conversely, rehabilitation for insertional Achilles tendinopathy relies primarily on contraction intensity, number of repetitions and sets, and the range of ankle dorsiflexion.

Ultimately, the findings emphasize that contraction intensity is the most crucial variable across all cases, while limiting ankle dorsiflexion is vital during early stages of insertional tendinopathy to avoid excessive tendon compression.
